What is physical computing? How to interface evive with PictoBlox in Stage mode? How to control the digital state of a pin to turn an LED ON and OFF?

  • Controlling the LED using a keyboard's space key as switch.

Lesson Overview

Students will learn the following things:

  • What is physical computing?
  • How to interface evive with PictoBlox?
  • How evive and PictoBlox communicate in Stage Mode.
  • How to control the digital state of a pin using set digital pin () output as () block.
  • Activity 1: Making a LED blink.
  • Activity 2: Controlling the state of the LED using space key – When the space key is pressed, the LED will be ON, else OFF.

Lesson Outline

Physical Computing - 15 minutes
  • What is physical computing?
  • How to connect evive with PictoBlox?
  • What is Stage Mode and how to upload the firmware to evive?
Digital Output - 10 minutes
  • What is the digital output?
  • How to control the state of a digital pin using set digital pin () output as () block.
Activity 1 - 15 minutes

Making a program to turn ON the LED connected to a digital pin for 1 second and then turn it OFF for another 1 second repeatedly. 

Activity 2 - 15 minutes

Making a program to control the state of LED using space key on the keyboard. When the space key is pressed, the LED will be ON, else OFF
