What is an ultrasonic sensor? How does it work? How to connect it to evive? How to get the distance of an object using the sensor in PictoBlox?

Activities:

  • Making a distance alarm system that will notify the user his/her distance from the object by changing the sound.

Lesson Overview

Students will learn the following things:

  • What is an ultrasonic sensor and how does it work?
  • The formula for calculating the distance using the ultrasonic sensor.
  • How to connect the ultrasonic sensor with evive?
  • Activity 1: Displaying the distance for the nearest object on evive display using the ultrasonic sensor.
  • Activity 2: Making a Distance Alarm System, that will notify the user the distance of the object by changing the sound. This can be used by blind people or by someone who is parking the car.

1 set of the following material per group of 3-5 students:

Lesson Outline

Ultrasonic Sensor - 15 minutes
  • What is an ultrasonic sensor?
  • What is the principle behind the sensor?
  • The formula for calculating the distance using the ultrasonic sensor.
Circuitry - 10 minutes
  • Pinouts of an ultrasonic sensor.
  • Connect the ultrasonic sensor to evive.
Activity 1 - 15 minutes

Make a PictoBlox program to display the distance of the nearest object on evive display using the ultrasonic sensor.

Activity 2 - 20 minutes

Make PictoBlox program for a Distance Alarm System, that will notify the user the distance of the object by changing the sound.

This can be used by blind people or by someone who is parking the car.
