Lesson Details
What is digital input? How to read the state of a digital pin in PictoBlox? How to read the state (pressed or not) of evive tactile switch? How to read the state (up, down, or center) of evive’s slide switch?

Activities:

  • Making the sprite to rotate when the tactile switch is pressed.

Lesson Overview

Students will learn the following things:

  • What is the digital input and how to read it in PictoBlox using read status of the digital pin () block?
  • What are evive’s tactile switch and how to read the state?
  • Activity 1: Making sprite rotate (animation) when the tactile switch is pressed.
  • What are evive’s slide switch and how to read the state?
  • Activity 2: Controlling sprite movement with different modes – rotating and moving.

Material Required

1 set of the following material per group of 3-5 students:

Lesson Outline

Digital Input - 10 minutes
  • What is the digital input?
  • How to do it in PictoBlox using read status of the digital pin () block?
Tactile Switch - 10 minutes
  • What is evive’s tactile switch?
  • How to read the state using tactile switch () pressed? block. 
Activity 1 - 15 minutes
  • Making sprite rotate (animation) when the tactile switch 1 is pressed.
  • Assignment: Add script for making Tobi rotate
    anticlockwise when switch 2 is pressed.
Slide switch - 10 minutes
  • What is evive’s slide switch?
  • How to read the state using slide switch () is in the state ()? block. 
Activity 2 - 15 minutes

In this activity, kids have to make a script where the motion of Tobi has 3 modes:

  • When tactile switch 1 is pressed, Tobi will move by 10 steps.
  • When tactile switch 1 is pressed, Tobi will turn by 90 degrees.
  • When tactile switch 1 is pressed, Tobi will do nothing
